Step-by-Step Instructions for One-Pot French Onion Pasta
- Slice your yellow onions into 1/8-inch rings.
- In a large Dutch oven, melt 2 tablespoons of butter with 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat. Add the onions and cook for 30–35 minutes.
- Once the onions are caramelized, stir in 2 minced garlic cloves, 1 tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce, 1 tablespoon of soy sauce, and a pinch of red pepper flakes. Cook for an additional 30 seconds.
- Pour in 4 cups of water or beef broth, along with 1 cup of evaporated milk, and whisk in 2 tablespoons of cornstarch.
- Bring the mixture to a boil, then add 12 ounces of orecchiette pasta. Simmer uncovered for 11–14 minutes.
- When the pasta is cooked al dente, fold in 1 cup of grated Gruyere and 1/2 cup of grated Parmesan cheese.
