For the Shrimp Tempura
  • 1 pound shrimp Peeled and deveined
  • 1 cup tempura flour Follow package instructions
  • 0.5 cup all-purpose flour Any light flour can be used
  • 3 cups oil for frying Sunflower oil recommended
For the Sushi Roll
  • 4 sheets nori sheets Seaweed sheets meant for sushi
  • 1 medium avocado Can substitute with cucumber
  • 1 medium cucumber Can substitute with zucchini
  • 2 tablespoons sesame seeds Optional garnish
  • 2 tablespoons sriracha mayo Optional for spice

Step‑by‑Step Instructions for Easy Homemade Shrimp Tempura Rolls
  1. Rinse sushi rice under cold water until the liquid runs clear, then boil with water for 15-20 minutes. Let it rest covered for 10 minutes.
  2. Mix rice vinegar, sugar, and salt in a saucepan until dissolved. Fold into cooked sushi rice without mashing, and cover with a damp cloth.
  3. Prepare shrimp tempura by dredging shrimp in flour, dip in tempura batter, and fry in preheated oil for 2-3 minutes until golden brown.
  4. Place a nori sheet on a bamboo mat, spread sushi rice over it, layer cucumber, avocado, and shrimp tempura, then roll tightly.
  5. Wet a sharp knife and slice the roll into 6-8 equal pieces. Serve with soy sauce, pickled ginger, and sriracha mayo.
