For Cooking & Toppings
  • 2 tablespoons Toasted sesame oil Vegetable oil can be used
  • 1/2 cup Takoyaki sauce Barbecue sauce can be used
  • 2 tablespoons Aonori (dried laver flakes) Can omit or substitute with chopped nori
  • 1/4 cup Bonito flakes Can substitute with shredded dried fish
  • 1/2 cup Kewpie mayonnaise Regular mayonnaise can be used

Method
 

Step‑by‑Step Instructions for Quick & Easy Takoyaki
  1. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, cake flour, eggs, dashi, and soy sauce until smooth.
  2. Preheat your takoyaki maker or non-stick skillet over medium heat for about 5 minutes. Brush with toasted sesame oil.
  3. Pour the batter into each mold about 3/4 full, then add the cooked octopus and scallions, and top with more batter.
  4. Cook for around 3 minutes until the edges firm up, then carefully flip each ball and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes.
  5. Transfer the Takoyaki balls to a plate, drizzle with takoyaki sauce and Kewpie mayonnaise, and sprinkle with aonori and bonito flakes.
