For the Sauce
  • 1/4 cup Soy Sauce Low-sodium is a healthier choice.
  • 2 teaspoons Sesame Oil Adds nutty aroma.
  • 2 tablespoons Shaoxing Wine (optional) Can be replaced with dry sherry or skipped.
  • 1 tablespoon Honey (or sugar) Maple syrup makes a great substitute.
  • 2 tablespoons Hoisin Sauce Important for authentic flavor.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Slice the ginger, garlic, green onions, white onion, and red bell pepper into bite-sized pieces and set aside.
  2. Thinly slice your chosen beef steak against the grain to ensure tenderness. In a mixing bowl, combine the sliced beef with soy sauce, Shaoxing wine, sesame oil, and a splash of water.
  3. Mix thoroughly and let the beef marinate for at least 15 minutes.
  4. Sprinkle cornstarch over the marinated beef and mix to create an even coating.
  5. Whisk together soy sauce, cornstarch, honey, hoisin sauce, and a splash of water until smooth.
  6. Heat a deep pan over medium-high heat, add oil, and sauté the coated beef in batches until golden brown.
  7. In the same pan, sauté sliced ginger, garlic, onions, and bell peppers until fragrant and slightly softened.
  8. Pour the sauce over the sautéed vegetables, stirring until it thickens. Return the crispy beef and toss everything together.
  9. Serve the Easy Mongolian Beef garnished with sesame seeds and enjoy with steamed rice or noodles.
