Method
 

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Slice the chicken into thin strips and set aside.
  2. Combine chicken with cornstarch, salt, and pepper; marinate for 10 minutes.
  3. Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium-high heat.
  4. Add marinated chicken to the skillet; cook until golden brown, about 5 to 7 minutes.
  5. Transfer chicken to a plate and sauté onions and mushrooms in the same skillet.
  6. Add minced garlic and cook for 1 minute.
  7. Whisk together soy sauce, oyster sauce, sesame oil, and water in a bowl.
  8. Pour the sauce into the skillet with vegetables and simmer for 2 minutes.
  9. Continue to simmer for an additional 2-3 minutes to thicken.
  10. Add cooked chicken back into the skillet and mix well.
  11. Adjust seasoning with more black pepper to taste.
  12. Let simmer for 1 minute; serve over rice or noodles.
