Ingredients

For the Bread
  • 1 cup Light Brown Sugar Add sweetness; substitute with coconut sugar for a healthier option.
  • 1 tbsp Ground Cinnamon Infuses warm flavor; make sure it's fresh for the best results.
  • 1/2 cup Vegan Butter Melted; margarine or other plant-based butters work too.
  • 3 cups All Purpose Flour Gives structure and bulk; swap for gluten-free all-purpose flour if desired.
  • 1 tbsp Instant Yeast Acts as a leavening agent for rise; also known as rapid-rise yeast.
  • 1 tsp Salt Enhances flavor; it's essential for overall taste.
  • 1/4 cup Maple Syrup Introduces sweetness and aids in browning; agave or another liquid sweetener can replace it.
  • 1 cup Warm Water Activates the yeast; ensure it's warm, not hot.
  • 1/4 cup Extra Virgin Olive Oil Contributes moisture; can use vegetable or canola oil as alternatives.

Equipment

  • Dutch oven

Method

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Prepare the Dutch Oven by lightly coating it with nonstick spray and lining it with parchment paper.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients: Combine the all-purpose flour, instant yeast, and salt in a large mixing bowl.
  3. Combine Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk warm water and maple syrup, then pour into dry ingredients along with melted vegan butter and olive oil.
  4. Prepare the Cinnamon Swirl by mixing light brown sugar, ground cinnamon, and melted vegan butter in a bowl.
  5. Layer the Dough and Cinnamon Mixture in the Dutch oven, starting with one-third of the dough, followed by one-third of the cinnamon mixture.
  6. Let it Rise for about 1 hour or until it nearly reaches the top of the pot.
  7. Preheat the Oven to 390°F (200°C).
  8. Bake the Bread for about 40 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick comes out clean.
  9. Cool and Serve: Allow the bread to cool in the Dutch oven for 10 minutes before transferring to a cooling rack.
