Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Prepare the cauliflower by breaking it into large florets. Steam or boil for 5 minutes until barely tender. Drain and transfer to a greased baking dish.
  2. In a medium saucepan, melt butter over medium-low heat. Sauté onion for 4-5 minutes until soft.
  3. Whisk in flour with the sautéed onion for 2-3 minutes to create a roux.
  4. Gradually add milk while whisking to prevent lumps. Bring to a gentle boil, then season with mustard powder, nutmeg, salt, and pepper.
  5. Stir in the combined cheeses until melted and smooth, then remove from heat.
  6. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  7. Pour the cheese sauce over the steamed cauliflower, ensuring even coverage.
  8. Mix melted butter, breadcrumbs, remaining cheese, and parsley in a bowl for topping, then sprinkle over the dish.
  9. Bake for 25-30 minutes until bubbly and golden brown.
