Ingredients
  

For the Tea Base
  • 8 cups filtered water
  • 4 whole cinnamon sticks
  • 2 inches fresh ginger sliced into coins
  • 1 tablespoon anise seeds
  • 1/4 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
For Sweetening
  • 2/3 cup granulated sugar or honey/agave
For Serving
  • chopped nuts walnuts, pistachios, and pine nuts

Method
 

Step-by-Step Instructions for LEBANESE SPICED TEA
  1. In a medium saucepan, pour in 8 cups of filtered water and place it over high heat. Bring to a rapid boil.
  2. Once boiling, add 4 whole cinnamon sticks, sliced ginger, 1 tablespoon of anise seeds, and a touch of freshly grated nutmeg.
  3. Reduce the heat to a low simmer, covering the saucepan. Allow to simmer for 1 to 1.5 hours.
  4. Uncover the saucepan and whisk in 2/3 cup of granulated sugar until dissolved. Adjust sweetness to taste.
  5. Using a fine mesh sieve, strain the tea into a bowl or another saucepan, removing solid spices.
  6. At the bottom of each teacup, place a handful of mixed chopped nuts and pour the tea over them. Serve immediately.
