- Prepare the Oranges: Wash and thinly slice 4 large, ripe oranges, removing any seeds.
- Prepare the Lemon: Wash and thinly slice 1 fresh lemon, also removing the seeds.
- Combine Ingredients: In a large pot, combine sliced oranges, lemon, and 4 cups of water. Soak for 6-8 hours or overnight.
- Cook the Fruit: Bring the mixture to a rolling boil over medium heat, then simmer for 30 minutes.
- Add Sugar and Pectin: Stir in 4 cups of sugar, salt, and 1.75 oz of pectin, then boil again.
- Check for Doneness: Boil for 10-15 minutes until gel-like consistency is achieved.
- Jar the Marmalade: Pour into sterilized jars, leaving 1/4 inch of space, and seal while hot.
