Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt in a medium bowl until fully combined. Set aside.
  2. In a large bowl, mix the granulated sugar, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract until smooth. Add gel food coloring to desired hue.
  3. Gradually fold the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until just combined; do not overmix.
  4. Cover the dough and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
  5. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  6. Scoop out 1 tablespoon of dough, roll it into a ball, then coat in powdered sugar before placing on baking sheets.
  7. Bake for 10-12 minutes until slightly puffy and cracked on top; centers should remain soft.
  8. Cool on the baking sheets for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
