Method
 

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare cake pans. In a bowl, whisk dry ingredients and in another, mix wet ingredients. Add green gel food coloring and fill pans. Bake for 28-33 minutes.
  2. Let cake layers cool for 10 minutes, then transfer to a rack to cool completely. Level cake tops with a serrated knife and shape into a Christmas tree.
  3. Beat unsalted butter until creamy, add vanilla and salt. Gradually sift in powdered sugar, adjust with heavy whipping cream until fluffy.
  4. Stack cake layers with buttercream in between. Apply a crumb coat and chill for 30 minutes.
  5. Prepare buttercream and color it. Decorate the cake with frosted rosettes and other designs.
