- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare cake pans. In a bowl, whisk dry ingredients and in another, mix wet ingredients. Add green gel food coloring and fill pans. Bake for 28-33 minutes.
- Let cake layers cool for 10 minutes, then transfer to a rack to cool completely. Level cake tops with a serrated knife and shape into a Christmas tree.
- Beat unsalted butter until creamy, add vanilla and salt. Gradually sift in powdered sugar, adjust with heavy whipping cream until fluffy.
- Stack cake layers with buttercream in between. Apply a crumb coat and chill for 30 minutes.
- Prepare buttercream and color it. Decorate the cake with frosted rosettes and other designs.
