- Bring a large pot of salted water to a rolling boil. Add squid ink pasta and cook according to package instructions until al dente, about 8-10 minutes. Reserve ½ cup of pasta water, then drain and set aside.
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add sliced garlic and cook for 1-2 minutes until golden.
- Stir in tomato paste and cook for about 30 seconds to 1 minute.
- Add halved cherry tomatoes, white wine (or lemon juice), and red pepper flakes. Season with salt and pepper and cook for 3-5 minutes.
- Add shrimp and cook for 2-3 minutes until pink and opaque.
- Add drained pasta to the skillet along with butter, lemon zest and juice, and reserved pasta water. Toss to combine.
- Stir in basil and adjust seasoning as needed. Serve immediately.
