  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon citrus zest (optional)
Garnishing
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips
  • 1/4 cup crushed pistachios (or mini chocolate chips)

Preparation Steps
  1. In a mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour, sugar, and a large egg. Mix until a dough forms, then knead it on a floured surface for about 5 minutes.
  2. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and let it rest for 30 minutes.
  3. After resting, divide the dough and roll out to 1/8 inch thick. Cut out circles using a 3-inch cookie cutter.
  4. Heat oil to 350°F and fry the dough circles for 1-2 minutes on each side until golden brown.
  5. In a mixing bowl, combine ricotta cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth and creamy.
  6. Fill a piping bag with ricotta filling and pipe into each fried pastry shell.
  7. Sprinkle with chocolate chips or crushed pistachios before serving.
