Step-by-Step Instructions for Dirt Cake
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Prepare the chocolate cake mix in a 9x13-inch baking dish according to package directions. Bake for 25-30 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean, then cool for 10 minutes.
- Poke holes in the slightly cooled cake with a spoon handle, about 1 inch apart.
- Warm the hot fudge sauce until easily pourable and drizzle it over the poked cake. Let it absorb for 5-10 minutes.
- Whisk one package of pudding mix with 1¾ cups of milk until smooth, then pour over the warm cake.
- Mix the second package of pudding with 2 cups of milk in a large bowl and refrigerate for 5-10 minutes until thick. Fold in the Cool Whip.
