Ingredients
  

For the Tofu
  • 1 block Tofu Firm or extra-firm for crispy texture
  • 1/4 cup Cornstarch For coating
  • 3 tablespoons Sunflower/Peanut/Canola Oil For frying
For the Sauce
  • 1/4 cup Tamari/Soy Sauce Tamari is gluten-free
  • 1 teaspoon Chili Flakes Adjust to spice tolerance
  • 1/2 teaspoon Ground Black Pepper
  • 2 tablespoons Maple Syrup For sweetness
  • 1 teaspoon Sriracha/Sambal Oelek Or any hot sauce
  • 2 tablespoons Rice Wine Vinegar Apple cider vinegar is a substitute
  • 2 cloves Garlic Cloves Minced
  • 1 teaspoon Ground Dried Ginger Double amount if using fresh
  • 1 teaspoon Chinese 5 Spice Or substitute with cinnamon
For the Vegetables
  • 1 cup Red Pepper Chopped
  • 1/4 cup Scallions Chopped, optional

Method
 

Preparation Steps
  1. Press the tofu for about 30 minutes using paper towels and a heavy object.
  2. Combine sauce ingredients in a bowl and mix until well blended. Set aside.
  3. Cube the pressed tofu and coat it with cornstarch in a separate bowl.
  4. Heat oil in a skillet and fry tofu cubes until golden brown, about 5 to 7 minutes.
  5. Sauté the red pepper in the same skillet for about 5 minutes until softened.
  6. Combine the crispy tofu and red pepper, then toss with the sauce until coated.
