Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Dissolve a teaspoon of sugar in ½ cup of warm water. Sprinkle yeast and let it sit for 5-10 minutes.
  2. Whisk together 3 ½ cups of flour and 1 teaspoon of salt in a large bowl.
  3. Combine the yeast mixture with ¼ cup melted butter, ¾ cup milk, and 1 egg in another bowl.
  4. Pour wet ingredients into dry mixture, stirring gently until a shaggy dough forms.
  5. Transfer to a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes.
  6. Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise for about 1 hour.
  7. Punch down the dough, shape it into a rectangle, and cut into thick slices.
  8. Let sliced dough rise on a baking sheet for another 30 minutes to 1 hour.
  9. Preheat oven to 375°F and bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
